Elizabeth is an anthropologist with a specialty in Latin American and Development issues.  She held teaching and administrative positions in several east coast colleges and universities. In 2004 she began teaching astanga yoga and gentle yoga for seniors in East Harlem, New York.  She served in the Peace Corps in Mindelo (SV), Cape Verde, West Africa in 2006-2007.  There, she taught in an English language teacher training program and developed a yoga program. The program continues active and has named itself “Power Yoga – São Vicente.”

She was certified by the Hard and the Soft Astanga Yoga Institute in 2008 and 2010 at the 200 and 500 hour levels respectively. In 2009 she was certified by the “Yoga for Seniors” program at the Duke Integrative Medicine Center in Durham, North Carolina.  A version of her practicum report for that program was accepted for publication in the Fall 2010 issue of the Journal of the International Association of Yoga Therapists under the title, “Yoga for Seniors with Arthritis.” Currently, Elizabeth teaches astanga yoga and yoga for seniors from her studio/apartment and in senior centers in East Harlem. She continues committed to yoga therapy research and active in development work in East Africa.
